So LTE is somewhere between 4G and 3G? If AT&T bought T-Mobile, would the PSV of had this? Could it be good enough for online gaming? Could it warrant the purchase of 3G?

I don’t know if it’s enough for online gaming but the LTE technology is different enough from 3G where you would need a different chip. As such, the Vita would be incapable of doing 4G on the 3G model.

Well i wasnt so much askingif it will be 4G comparable. Rather if it could deliver enough so we could play that CoD: Future Game online on the subway. this and other online games being the reason why to get the model.

Technology like that is hard to find accurate bandwidth numbers on, but I’ll try finding out again. I too am interested in finding out.

When you guys are discussing the features on PS3 being “hit or miss” for the most part, it got me thinking about the original motion controls on the PS3. Those were something that Sony was clearly pushing not just to remove the stink of lack of rumble, but to compete with the Wii control scheme.
In the long that didnt work out as since the addition of rumble, motion controls were just another tick on the box, and then with move, that box is no longer needed. I can remember a statement from Sony early on saying that rumble couldnt coexist with motion controls and that this was the reason they decided to go ahead without at launch. True or not, this got me thinking.
What if the original SixAxis came with a camera on the back? This with the EyeToy(2) could have meant for some real inovative games out the gate and possibly jumped on the whole Kinect/Move/Wii’s been doing it for 5 years bandwagon much much earliar. Do you think a camera addition on the controller, something like how the Vita is set up, could have been successful and competitive with the Wii and future Kinect, and do you think this would have had an impact on rumble eventually coming in.

Hey guys as a tech blogger have to correct you. You’re right about the 3 4G technologies but have them confused. T-Mobile and ATT have whats called HSPA+. It’s being marketed as “4G” but is actually a faster version of “3G” and is just “3G” in europe. The second 4G tech was the first to launch in the US and is called Wimax. It provides much better speeds than EVDO Rev-A which is sprint and verizon’s “3G” (CDMA network 3G as opposed to T-mobile and ATT’s GSM) but has serious long term issues since it does not play well with large numbers of users. Sprints 4G while starting at around 10 mbs down drops to 1 mb in crowded areas. The final and best or “true 4G” to use your words is LTE. LTE is in use by Verizon nationwide now and will be rolled out by ATT next year. Until then all ATT “4G” phones are HSPA+ as are T-mobile (lowest 4G) Sprint is Wimax (2nd best and good in less populated areas) and Verizon’s 4G (LTE and by far the best.) haha you have it backwards my friend. Also to answer the person above me, I tether my Droid Charge and with a steady down rate of a staggering 25mbs down 15 up and an amazing ping it is more than enough to game. I normally keep a phone on each network since I always have something to review. If you need any help with facts on mobile infrastructure let me know and shoot me an email. Great podcast otherwise.

Thanks for clarifying that. It’s been years since I’ve sold contracts for phones. But yes, I’m glad you came in here and posted all of the correct acronyms and performances.
